Peter Lewry is a British-born author with several books to his credit, including the prize-nominated Johnny Cash Chronicle-I’ve Been Everywhere. A leading authority on the country music legend, he first heard Johnny Cash’s music back in the late sixties. He bought his first Cash album, At San Quentin, in 1970 and has followed his career closely ever since. He started the Johnny Cash fanzine back in 1994 and in March 2007 celebrated it's fiftieth issue. The Man in Black website, set up to complement the fanzine, won the music lover category at the ntl: Best Of British Broadband Awards in 2004. Peter received his award from radio and television presenter Neil Fox at a prestigious awards dinner at the renowned celebrity haunt The Ivy in London. He has also worked on a number of Cash projects including CD compilation, liner notes, various magazine articles and also worked with the Los Angeles based web design company on the Twentieth Century Fox official Walk The Line website. He was a special guest at the UK launch of the Walk The Line DVD at HMV in Oxford Street, London. His knowledge on Johnny Cash has led to him being called to assist on the research on a number of magazine articles and radio specials. He has been interviewed on local and national radio stations across the UK and has been interviewed by Cash's long-time friend, singer and DJ Johnny Western on his radio show broadcast from Wichita, Kansas. His passion for music spreads far wider than just country music and he has written many articles including in-depth studies on both Linda Ronstadt and French singer/actress Vanessa Paradis for the UK music magazine Record Collector. He has recently finished work on his first biography, Linda Ronstadt-A Life In Music, which is currently awaiting a publication date. Together with Nigel Goodall he has written The Ultimate Queen, three books on Cliff Richard, and as consultants, they worked on many Cliff related projects including CD compilation, liner notes, various TV programmes and DVD releases. Among the many highlights of this period of Peter’s career was the opportunity to interview Cliff Richard during the writing of the co-authored The Complete Recording Sessions and the release of Cliff Richard & The Shadows Live At The ABC Kingston 1962, a previously unheard live recording that captured all the excitement of their early gigs. The deluxe 7" packaging of this release, and the Summer Holiday Special Edition which followed a few years later, inspired BMG's Follow That Dream collectors label to follow a similar style with their Elvis Presley releases. Never one to tie himself down to one genre of music his collection includes country, rock and roll, blues, jazz, pop and almost every style in-between. However, it is Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley that form the major part of his extensive CD collection. A trip to Nashville and Memphis back in the late-nineties gave him the opportunity to visit many sites associated with the music that he loved including Graceland, Sun Studios and The House Of Cash. He returned to Nashville in 2003, following Cash’s death, to attend the Memorial Show held at the Ryman Auditorium. Although a sad time he did make many new friends and had the opportunity to meet up with many of Cash's friends, family and business associates including Lou & Karen Robin, Bill & Shannon Miller, Kathy Cash, Reba Hancock, John Carter-Cash and Rosanne Cash. Peter was born in Worthing, where he still lives today with his wife Carole and their two bearded collies - Mac & Blitz. |
