Sean Body whose company Helter Skelter published my Johnny Cash Chronicle lost his battle with Leaukemia on 15 April 2008 and an obituary will appear in our next issue. Many readers may recall the excellent Helter Skelter Bookstore situated in Denmark Street in London. The shop, which closed in 2004, was the best I had ever been into for music books and no trip to London would have been complete without time spent browsing the shelves. Sean was one of the kindest people I had ever met in publishing and he will be missed by many people. Our thoughts go out to his family.

The Best of the Johnny Cash TV Show, a 2-DVD set from Columbia/Legacy, has achieved RIAA platinum certification within a few months of its release, a demonstration of the ongoing durability of the man and his music. The collection was certified both Gold and Platinum by the RIAA in recognition of sales exceeding 100,000 copies since the DVD's release on 17 September, 2007. Future DVD volumes of The Johnny Cash TV Show are being prepared but no release dates are currently set.

Johnny Cash's God's Gonna Cut You Down video, directed by Tony Kaye and produced by Rachel Curl, was a success at the 50th Annual Grammy awards ceremony. It won in the category Best Short Form Music Video (For an individual track or single promotional clip. Award to the Artist and to the Video Director/Producer.)

There have been rumours recently that W S 'Fluke' Holland was retiring but it turns out to be a slight distortion of the truth. Mike Horan, the webmnaster of the excellent maninblack.net site, spoke to Holland and found out more. Apparently he is well and has no intention of retiring yet although he may not tour as part of the Tennessee Three anymore. At 72 the idea of travelling for hours on a bus between gigs is sometning he no longer wants to do. However, he will continue drumming.

Many of the nation's best musicians will be honored on 26 November at the The Musicians Hall of Fame's first Induction & Awards Ceremony. The event will honor inaugural inductees Nashville A-Team, The Blue Moon Boys, The Funk Brothers, The Memphis Boys, The Tennessee Two and The Wrecking Crew. Among the artists honoring these musicians are Peter Frampton, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, Roger McGuinn, Brenda Lee, Amy Grant, John Carter Cash, B.J. Thomas, Rodney Crowell. Creed Bratton, a cast member of NBC's The Office, will be a presenter. The Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum, which opened last year in Nashville, is the nation's only museum that honors musicians of all genres.

The Gospel Music Of Johnny Cash: A Story of Faith and Redemption is the title of a new DVD from Spring House. Introduced by Dan Rather this 90 minute documentary looks at the spiritual side of Cash and features many never-before-seen performances including several from the Billy Graham Crusdaes.

The press release states - Johnny Cash's close friend and personal hairdresser shares her intimate memories of not just the music legend, but the man who overcame his own personal demons to become a bible scholar and an ordained minister." Most people remember Johnny for his legendary work in the music business but my memories of him go far beyond that. I remember a man who was deeply religious and struggled with temptation and redemption for most of his life but in the end, found his way back to God, long before he joined the heavenly chorus in the sky."

Currently touring in support of her critically-acclaimed and Grammy-nominated Black Cadillac album, singer/songwriter/author Rosanne Cash has announced that she will cancel her four remaining concerts this year in order to undergo brain surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital for a rare but benign condition Rosanne is expected to make a full recovery and will return to the studio to complete the recording of her debut for Manhattan Records. Ms. Cash will also resume her live performance schedule in the spring and will complete a new book to be published by Viking in early 2009. Ms. Cash signed with Manhattan Records earlier this year and looks forward to her first recording with the EMI-based label. Ian Ralfini, GM for Manhattan Records stated, "I am very proud to have Rosanne Cash on our roster. She is an extremely talented singer, writer and performer. We all wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to having her back in the studio soon."
